The potential of transfer

On September 18, 2024, the 4transfer annual conference took place at Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig. In lectures and workshops, the participants approached the topic of knowledge and technology transfer from the perspectives of science, municipalities, art and politics.

The audience was greeted with a theatrical dispute between a professor and a transfer manager. The arguments were taken up in depth in two keynotes on the questions: “Why is science unfamiliar with knowledge and technology transfer?” and “How can transfer inspire science?”. Prof. Dr. Hans-Hennig von Grünberg from the University of Potsdam and Prof. Dr. Stefanie Molthagen-Schnöring from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences explained, among other things, that science no longer resides in an ivory tower, but is increasingly dedicated to transfer. Transfer either stands as a third pillar alongside teaching and research or is integrated into them.

After the technical introduction to the topic, various creative approaches and transfer methods were presented. Among others, Mr. Petersen from HSF Meißen recorded his conversations on transfer with invited guests in a live podcast “Arne fragt”. In a short presentation, Carolin Löffler from SAVE THE WORLD showed just how impressively transfer can work through the interplay of art and science.

In the afternoon, the participants assigned themselves to three in-depth program items: “Reality Check Transfer”, “Innovation Storytelling” and “Creative Bureaucracy”. In the reality check transfer, it was recognized as an important point that the transfer between the companies and the universities of applied sciences is still too random and unsystematic. In addition to the workshops, the 4transfer project presented its Science Bus and invited participants to find out more about the project using a multi-touch table. The event, which was organized by the Landesverband für Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Sachsen e. V. together with the three universities TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Berufsakademie Sachsen and Hochschule Meißen and Fortbildungszentrum, concluded with the XR Show. Gianfranco Iannuzzi and the artist group “Immersive Art Factory” used beamers to project moving images of Hundertwasser onto the walls of the old industrial hall.
