Taking the BO MachMobil to the citizens

THALESruhr, the sustainability project at Bochum University of Applied Sciences, is reaching out to citizens in a converted electric van to promote transformation processes. The mobile field office invites the people of the Ruhr Metropolis to engage in dialogue at eye level and to discuss the topics of sustainability and change.

The BO MachMobil is part of the endeavours of THALESruhr and Bochum University of Applied Sciences to further open up to society and local communities and to turn the campus into a space for experiencing, shaping, and transforming sustainability. The MachMobil creates a bridge between the sustainable campus of Bochum University of Applied Sciences and places of learning, dialogue, and experience outside the university.

The MachMobil is particularly present at public events in the Ruhr region, for example at city festivals or events such as the ruhrSummit, where it invites visitors to take part in discussions. On 31 August 2024, for example, the van can be found at the “Welttheater der Straße” in Schwerte where the MachMobil will offer hands-on activities on the topics of permaculture and soil improvement.

The MachMobil team also brings sustainability knowledge to schools and integrates it into lessons. There, the topics of the THALESruhr transfer projects are linked to scientific and social subjects and supplemented by hands-on activities.

As a mobile brand carrier and ambassador of the sustainable Bochum University of Applied Sciences, the MachMobil both promotes the image of the university and raises awareness for sustainability topics. The aim is to inform the interested public and offer them the opportunity to discuss sustainability topics between science and practical application.
